etched glasses.

I’ve been really excited about D’s birthday present and how it turned out and couldn’t wait to give it to him last night.

Thanks to my sweet friend Kelley (who etched me a 13.1 beer mug last spring prior to my first half marathon) I learned how to etch glasses. These were my results:

Thankfully D loved his present!

Here’s what I used:

Contact paper

X-acto Knife

Glass Pint Glasses (from the Dollar Store)

Plastic Knife

Armour Etch

Here’s how I did it:

1. I printed out the shapes I wanted to etch.

2. I traced those shapes out onto the contact paper using the x-acto knife.

3. Then I taped the contact paper onto the glass. (The great thing about contact paper is that it has a sticky layer that peels right off onto the glass.)

4. Next, I used the plastic knife to spread Armour Etch over the area I wanted to etch. I left that on for 10 minutes, washed the glass completely, and then repeated that process 2 or 3 times depending on how I liked the results.

5. Lastly, I removed the contact paper and voila! Easy and oh-so-cool looking.
